We're Changing The World One Girl At A Time!
The adolescent years provide an opportunity to prevent the onset of problems and change patterns of behaviour that have not been firmly established. Intervention allows for the introduction and enhancement of social and coping strategies that can have a lifelong impact on adolescent girls. This empowering prevention/intervention program is to help girls develop a lifelong perspective about living as a female in society, provide protection from negative sources of influence, and a lasting base of information for girls transitioning from adolescent to adult life.
Adolescents' Mental Health Needs: Girls Invisible Problems:
It is important to recognize that girls in today's society face a myriad of problems-many of which have the potential to become serious life issues.
The female adolescent in our society is particularly susceptible to what may be described as a group of "invisible" or "inwardly directed" problems including (but not limited to) depression, eating disorders, and poor body image. Although these problems may be less noticeable than delinquency, they are quite serious, and many teenage girls are in dire need of services and help. Because these problems are easily hidden, girls who require assistance may successfully conceal them until they have reached a very serious level.
If we want to help young people, we need to pave a road for them that is easy to follow and will lead to a successful outcome. A social support group makes the prospect of receiving support more plausible since it is easier to acknowledge and address problems with the mutual support of others.
By providing The Empowered Girl, we can build a community that is more responsive to the needs of adolescent girls.
